Paper Hydrangeas
❤❤❤
Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers with their high petal counts and large scalloped leaves. Used as fillers or as centerpieces, they are eye-catching and beautiful. These hydrangeas are created with paper and may be used year round in your home or to gift to a loved one - they are bound to impress. These flowers are by no means easy to make, but they are well worth your labor. Create your own following the steps below!
Here's what you need:
64lb Cardstock in your choice of colors - white, green & two shades of blue used here
Craft scissors or cutting machine
15 Floral wires (for each bloom)
Floral tape
Glue gun
Pliers
Flower template (scroll to bottom)
watercolor or paint & brush (optional)
stylus (optional)
How to Make Paper Hydrangeas:
Cut out pieces using templates. One sheet of 8.5"x11" cardstock will allow for enough petals for one hydrangea, but the final petal count is up to you. (our white hydrangea used less than one sheet of cardstock, while the two blue hydrangeas used a total of 4 sheets, split unevenly, between the two blooms).
Paint centers with watercolor. Let dry.
Curl petals using the barrel of a brush or pencil.
Tape 15 floral wires, starting roughly 3 inches from tip, with floral tape to create one large stem.
Separate & bend exposed wire tips to form spherical shape.
Curl ends of exposed wires using pliers.
Glue (1) petal onto each curled end. Using them as anchors, glue petals in open spaces.
Using a stylus, draw veins onto leaves.
Curl leaves slightly & fold down center lightly.
Using floral tape, attach leaves to base of flower, on stem.
The size and shape of each bloom will vary, but that adds to their charm - making each more realistic and unique. Blue hydrangeas were made by layering contrasting petals. How will you make yours?
