Paper Tea Roses

❤❤❤

Symbols for love and beauty, roses are loved by almost all. Given their variety in species, colors and sizes, they are versatile additions to any flower arrangement. These paper blooms may best represent the hybrid tea rose, the modern garden rose. Make your own using supplies you likely have at home, if you are a moderate crafter. They look beautiful as a bouquet as well as with other paper flowers. With a plethora of possible color combinations, these would look lovely with paper hydrangeas

Here's what you need:

  • Copy paper

  • Craft scissors | Cutting Machine

  • Floral tape

  • Floral wire

  • Glue gun

  • Flower template (scroll to bottom)

  • Watercolor set (optional)

How to Make Paper Tea Roses:

  1. Cut out shapes using template.

  2. Paint with watercolor. Let dry.

  3. Glue floral wire onto edge of single petal. Roll petal around wire & glue edge to secure, forming center.

  4. Apply glue in the shape of an arrow or triangle at tip of single petal. Glue onto center. Repeat to form a 3-petal center.

  5. Repeat step 4 with (3) single petals. The template includes additional petals - you will only need 6 to create the center of the bloom.

  6. Place small dots of glue onto tabs of multi-petal pieces and glue to form "cups".

  7. String in order of 3, 4, 5, 5 petal pieces onto floral wire, gluing to base of bloom.

    • Glue cups onto base of bloom by applying glue to the base first. Refer to photos below!

  8. When finished, wrap stem with floral tape.

I created these roses using a variety of paper textures, weights and colors. Copy paper worked the best to replicate realistic blooms - the petals will appear curled without actual curling! With certain flowers, such as vellum orchids, I preferred to leave petals uncolored. With these roses, the watercolor creates a more beautiful effect.

Experiment & create your own!
